Ragged Lake Morning
original: oil on hardwood panel 12 x 21 1/2” (not sold)Here are two of my brothers setting out in my canoe for a morning fishing excursion in Algonquin. After a few days of rain, the morning sunlight is punching through the clouds. Mist rises as warmth sends the moisture aloft again.
I try to paint the way our brain sees, rather than be constrained by photographic duplication. The glare results from the sun’s rays through droplets on eyelashes, eyebrows, or on eye glasses. Recreating the glare our vision experiences is something that only an impression can be given. It is hard to duplicate our fleeting recollection and relying on memories of this is difficult. Camera lens flare is similar to human eye lens flare, so we go with that.
